Free LRT-1, LRT-2, MRT-3 rides offered amid Uwan onslaught
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Sunday announced that commuters can avail of free train rides at the Light Rail Transit Lines 1 and 2 (LRT-1, LRT-2) and Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) amid the onslaught of Super Typhoon Uwan.
The rides will be available the whole day from November 10 to 11, DOTr said in a statement.
The Office of the President, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), and Senator Erwin Tulfo’s office will also provide free bus rides on Monday, which will have the following routes.
- Quiapo - Fairview
- Quiapo - Angono
- Lawton - Alabang
- Roxas Boulevard - Sucat
- Taft - Cubao
“Posibleng palawigin pa hanggang November 11 ang libreng sakay sa bus depende sa pangangailangan ng mga pasahero,” DOTr said.
(The free bus rides may be extended until November 11, depending on passenger demand.)
Meanwhile, the PPA removed the roll-on/roll-off terminal fees for vehicles carrying rescue equipment and relief goods to areas affected by the storm.
This includes government and private vehicles carrying relief goods or rescue equipment for government agencies.
Local airlines also waived cargo fees for those delivering aid to affected residents.
Acting DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez has directed the Toll Regulatory Board to waive toll fees for vehicles involved in emergency and rescue operations on the expressways.
DOTr also said stranded passengers in ports, airports, and bus terminals continuously receive food and water.
Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines continues to monitor the situation at airports affected by the storm.
Several flights were canceled on Sunday and Monday due to the inclement weather caused by the storm.
Several sea trips were also cancelled on Sunday due to rough seas, as Uwan nears the Philippine landmass.
