Love triangle behind fatal Pasig stabbing, say cops
A love triangle is seen as a possible motive behind the fatal stabbing of a man in Pasig City.
In Emil Sumangil’s exclusive report in “24 Oras” on Wednesday, CCTV footage showed the male victim being chased by two men along a busy street in broad daylight. The suspects caught up with the victim after he tripped and fell on the ground.
One of the suspects hit the victim on the head and body with an object. The man tried to defend himself but another man stabbed him on the back. The suspects fled, leaving the man lying on the road where he eventually died.
“Isang saksak lang [na] fatal ang tama, sa likod. Sa lakas ng pagkakasaksak, naiwan pa ‘yung kitchen knife na ginamit sa krimen doon sa bangkay,” said Pasig Police chief P/Col. Hendrix Mangaldan.
(It was only one stab on the back, but it was fatal. Due to the force of the stabbing, the kitchen knife used in the crime was left on the body.)
The Pasig City Police eventually arrested the suspect who stabbed the victim hours after the incident. Meanwhile, the other suspect remains at large.
Investigation showed that the arrested suspect caught his partner chatting with the victim. This supposedly triggered him to kill the victim.
“Love triangle ito,” said the police official.
(This is a love triangle.)
The woman in the middle of the love triangle coordinated with police and admitted that the victim was her former boyfriend but it’s been a long time since they broke up.
Police said the arrested suspect was jealous even though his partner and the victim were no longer together.
“After nung hiwalayan, may mga death threats na ginawa itong suspect sa ating biktima,” said Mangaldan.
(After the breakup, this suspect made death threats against the victim.)
It was actually the woman who pointed to the whereabouts of the suspect and will also serve as a witness in the case.
The arrested suspect, however, said that he is also a victim: “Biktima lang din po ako dito. Sa korte na lang po ako magpapaliwanag.”
(I am also just a victim here. I will just explain myself in court.)
He also requested her former partner to point to the “real” suspect: Ituro niya yung talagang mismong umano doon, hindi yung ako. Wala akong kinalaman dito.”
(She should point to the real person who did it, not me. I have nothing to do with this.) —Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
