EDSA average daily traffic hits over 427,000 vehicles — MMDA

The average daily traffic along EDSA has reached more than 427,000 vehicles, according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

In Jamie Santos’s Wednesday report on “24 Oras,” the volume of vehicles climbs 10% to 20% during the holiday season, which is equivalent to an additional 40,000 to 85,000 vehicles.

At 3 p.m., traffic was slow-moving along the EDSA southbound lane in front of Scout Albano Street.

Motorcycle riders forced their way in between cars to move forward since vehicles were bumper to bumper at around 4 p.m.

Vehicles along road sections like the Kamuning Flyover were moving five kilometers per hour.

The crawling traffic was also observed along the Skyway northbound and the South Luzon Expressway Magallanes northbound.

Traffic along EDSA Magallanes heading toward Ayala Avenue was moving, but vehicles were moving at around 10 kph up to the northbound Ayala underpass.

To keep one’s composure amid the heavy traffic, a motorist reminded fellow drivers to remain calm since everyone will get to their respective destinations.

Another motorist said he listens to music to pass the time amid the traffic.

Meanwhile, some commuters had difficulty getting a ride, so they walked to their destinations.

There are also choke points in areas in front of mall entrances and at U-turn slots along EDSA.— Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
