LTO revokes driver’s license of pick-up truck driver in viral video

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Wednesday said it has revoked the driver’s license of the pick-up truck driver who was videoed while cursing and hurting a man who was pushing a cart in Antipolo City.

In a video statement, the LTO said the driver presented himself before the LTO office in compliance with a show-cause order (SCO) issued against him.

“Matapos ang masusing pagsusuri, tuluyan nang ni-revoke ng LTO ang driver’s license ng nasabing motorista,” the LTO said in a statement.

(After a thorough investigation, the LTO decided to permanently revoke the driver’s license of the said motorist.)

The agency said the suspect admitted that he was hot-headed at the time of the incident.

In the viral video, the man was seen cursing at the other man in the video and even hit him on the head in front of the man’s daughter, who sobbed helplessly.

The victim, Crispin Villamor, said the vehicle was driving fast and almost hit his daughter. He was initially able to maneuver his cart but the pickup truck still ended up hitting his cart.

Villamor was also shocked when the driver allegedly threatened him. But the Antipolo City Police said the pick-up truck driver apologized to Villamor over what happened.

Meanwhile, actress Pokwang on Tuesday admitted that the suspect is her brother and apologized to the other party and his daughter.

In the same statement, the LTO added that the pick-up vehicle was placed under alarm. This means that the vehicle cannot be sold, used as loan collateral, or registered while it is under alarm.

“Bukod dito, nakaalarma na rin ang naturang sasakyan sa rekord ng LTO upang matiyak na hindi na ito magamit sa anumang paglabag sa batas-trapiko,” it said.

(In addition to this, the vehicle in question has been placed under alarm in the LTO records to ensure that it can no longer be used in any [further] violations of traffic laws.)

“Binigyang-diin ni LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao na hindi kukunsintihin ng ahensiya ang anumang anyo ng karahasan at iresponsableng pag-uugali sa kalsada.”
