PNP-CIDG seizes P100M worth of frozen food without permits in Navotas

The Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) has seized P100 million worth of frozen food with no permits in Navotas City.

According to a statement released on Friday, the frozen products consisted of an assortment of meat, fish, and other agri-fishery products, totaling 1,071 boxes.

It may also have been illegally smuggled and unsafe for consumption.

The confiscation occurred following the implementation of a search warrant for violation of Republic Act No. 10611, or the Food Safety Act of 2013, which led to the PNP’s operations targeting the said cold storage warehouses in Navotas City.

“This accomplishment underscores the PNP’s unwavering commitment to protecting the health and safety of the public. As we approach Christmas... We remind everyone to remain vigilant and ensure that the food we serve our families is safe, properly sourced, and compliant with food safety standards,” PNP Acting Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Nartatez Jr. said.

“Under the PNP Focus Agenda, we continue to intensify law enforcement efforts against activities that endanger public health and undermine consumer protection. This operation sends a strong message that violations of food safety laws will not be tolerated,” he added. –Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/NB, GMA Integrated News
