LGBT group says MRT, LRT free rides are 'symbolic acts of inclusion'
The Ang Ladlad LGBT Party on Monday said that the free train rides given to members of the LGBTQIA+ community are symbolic acts of inclusion that recognize the daily struggles faced by the community.
“Programs that promote visibility and equality help foster a society grounded in dignity, fairness, and human rights,” it said in a statement.
Solo parents and members of the LGBTQIA+ community can avail of free rides on the LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 lines today, December 22 while other sectors may avail of free rides until December 25.
Ang Ladlad also cited a Supreme Court ruling that affirmed that moral disapproval is not a valid ground to deny the political participation of the community.
“Ang Ladlad calls on government institutions, transport authorities, and the public to uphold the Constitution, respect diversity, and support inclusive policies that ensure no Filipino is left behind,” it said.
“Equality is not special treatment—it is justice,” it added.
Meanwhile, it called on the Congress to pass the SOGIE Equality Bill. —KG, GMA Integrated News
