DOTr to build covered walkway connecting 2 QC malls along EDSA

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said Tuesday that it will build a covered walkway connecting the Trinoma and the SM City North EDSA malls along a portion of EDSA in Quezon City.

The DOTr said it will coordinate with the mall operators for the said project as the current path linking the two malls is deemed inconvenient to the public.

“Nakita natin ‘yung sitwasyon sa walkway between the two malls, at grabe talaga ‘yung dinadaanan ng mga pasahero doon. Kapag umuulan, bumabaha pa sa daanan kaya grabeng pasakit talaga sa mga dumadaan, kaya palalagyan natin ng bubong ‘yang walkway,” said DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez in a statement shared on social media.

(We’ve seen the situation at the walkway between the two malls, and what the passengers have to go through there is really difficult. It floods when it rains, making it a huge burden for those passing through; that’s why we are going to have a roof installed over that walkway.)

Situated between the two malls is the Metro Rail Transit-Line 3 (MRT-3) North Avenue Station and the soon-to-rise MRT-Line 7 North Triangle Common Station.

Responding to complaints posted online, MRT-3 management inspected the present walkway and installed some temporary concrete slabs in the spots that usually flood, making it easier for people to pass during rainy weather.

“The transport chief added that the walkway should also eventually be connected to the Common Station, giving seamless access to MRT-3, LRT-1 and MRT-7. Both the Common Station and the MRT-7 are set to be operational in 2027,” the DOTr added. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
