3 hurt, 700 left homeless after fire razes residential area in Mandaluyong City
Three people wqere hurt and over 700 residents were left homeless after a large fire struck a residential neighborhood in Mandaluyong City.
In her 24 Oras Weekend report on Sunday, Bea Pinlac said the blaze destroyed around 100 houses in Barangay Addition Hills on Saturday evening.
The Bureau of Fire Protection 160 families or over 700 persons lost their homes in the fire that reached the third alarm to which 60 fire trucks of the BFP and fire volunteers responded.
FS/Inspector Bryan Pillula said most of the houses were made from light materials and firefighters had difficulty navigating the narrow alleyways.
The fire, whose origins are still being determined, was extinguished at past 9 p.m.
Among those who were injured were a firefighting volunteer and a senior citizen.
The fire spread so fast that residents barely had time to save their possessions. The BFP estimated the loss property to around half a million pesos.
One of the victims, Jocelyn Erpelo, said she made sure her children were safe before trying to saving their valuables.
Resident Lea Opiana said she used her daughter’s school bag to store important family documents. She said she was so shaken to do anything else.
The family of Hernan Segovia, meanwhile, said prioritized the safety of their pet dog which they consider one of their children. They lost most of their valuables to the fire.
Authoritie said the fire incident is the ninth time in the same barangay in 2025. — RF, GMA Integrated News
