LTO summons owner, driver of truck involved in reckless driving along SLEX

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order (SCO) against the driver and registered owner of an Isuzu Forward truck that allegedly engaged in reckless driving along the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) last week.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the LTO said it also imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on the driver’s license of the truck driver and placed the truck under an LTO alarm.

This was after a viral video showed the truck driving along the inner lane or overtaking lane of the SLEX on December 26 – a violation since the said lane is off-limits to trucks.

The LTO said the truck driver’s reckless driving posed a serious danger to the safety of other motorists.

The SCO compelled the registered owner and driver of the Isuzu Forward truck to personally appear before the LTO – Intelligence and Investigation Division (LTO-IID) on Jan. 8, 2026 to submit a verified or sworn statement, as well as related documents, to explain why they should not be held liable for reckless driving, disregarding traffic signs, and for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

LTO chief and Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said their failure to appear or submit an explanation on the said date will mean that they are waiving their right to be heard and that the case will be resolved based on the evidence and records on hand.

“Muling pinaalalahanan ng LTO ang lahat ng may-ari at drayber ng mga sasakyang pangkargamento na mahigpit na sundin ang mga batas at regulasyon sa trapiko, lalo na sa mga expressway, upang matiyak ang kaligtasan ng publiko at maiwasan ang mga aksidenteng maaaring magdulot ng pinsala sa buhay at ari-arian,” it added.

(The LTO once again, reminds all owners and drivers of cardo trucks to strictly follow laws and traffic regulations especially on expressways to ensure the safety of the public and avoid accidents that might cause damage to lives and property.) — JMA, GMA Integrated News
