Nazareno devotees urged to join thanksgiving procession on Dec. 30

Devotees of Jesus Nazarene were called to participate in a solemn thanksgiving procession on Tuesday night, December 30.

“Huwag natin kakalimutan na maging banal din ang ating bawat gawain kasi ang mga gampanin na ginagawa natin ay mga espiritual na aktibidades,” Fr. Robert Arellano, spokesperson for Nazareno 2026, said in a press briefing on Monday.

(Let us not forget to be holy in our actions because the tasks we are performing are spiritual activities.)

“Makikita ang ganda, ang galing, at ang kaayusan depende sa disiplina din na ibinibigay ng ating mga deboto,”  he added.

(The beauty, the excellence, and the orderliness can be seen depending on the discipline of our devotees.)

The Quiapo Church revealed that the thanksgiving procession, expected to run for two to three hours, will follow the route below:

Quiapo Church technical adviser Alex Irasga said instead of being pulled by ropes, the image will be placed in a carosa or carriage mounted on a truck.

The truck will then move slowly and will br surrounded by hijos, including police officers.

Traslacion activities

Irasga invited members of the media, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Philippine National Police, employees of local and national government, medical personnel, and Traslacion volunteers to participate in the Eucharistic celebration and pahalik on January 7, 6 p.m., at the Quirino Grandstand.

The pahalik or pagpupugay will be opened to the public on the same day.

Quiapo Church earlier presented its plans for the 2026 celebration of the Jesus Nazareno image, including the Traslacion on January 9.

The Manila Police District (MPD), meanwhile, reminded that umbrellas, firearms, firecrackers and pyrotechnics, and glass water canisters are prohibited at the event. Participants are asked not to wear hoodie jackets and ballcaps.

For emergencies, the public may contact MPD at 0917 899 2092 / 0919 995 0976 or through its official Facebook account.

Celebrated every January 9, the Traslacion commemorates the transfer of the image of Jesus Nazareno from the San Nicolas de Tolentino Church in Intramuros to Quiapo Church in the 1700s.

The 2026 feast is themed "Dapat Siyang Tumaas at Ako nama'y Bumaba" (He must become greater; I must become less), which is based on the Book of John in the Bible.

Over eight million Jesus Nazareno devotees participated in the 2025 Traslacion, one of the longest processions in recent memory, which lasted for 20 hours, 45 minutes, and four seconds. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
