Police to deploy 14K personnel for Traslacion 2026
The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it is stepping up preparations for the Traslacion on January 9, 2026 with around 14,000 police personnel set to be deployed to secure one of the country’s largest annual religious gatherings.
The deployment will cover key areas and activities related to the procession of the Black Nazarene, with additional police forces coming from regional offices, including Central Luzon and Calabarzon, to reinforce Metro Manila units.
The PNP said the heightened security presence aims to ensure public safety, manage large crowds, and maintain order throughout the event, which is expected to draw millions of devotees.
Meanwhile, officials of the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno said at least 200 police personnel will also serve as hijos during the Traslacion.
The officers will be on special duty to help maintain order around the “andas” or carriage carrying the image of Jesus Nazareno, as well as along the rope attached to it – areas considered among the most sensitive and crowded parts of the procession.
Authorities said coordination between the police and church officials remains ongoing as part of final preparations for the Traslacion, with security, crowd control, and emergency response among the top priorities.
