Man nabbed for allegedly firing gun in Tondo during New Year revelry
A 21-year-old resident of Tondo, Manila was arrested on New Year’s Day after he allegedly fired his gun as part of the celebration to welcome 2026.
The Manila Police District identified the accused as Joshua San Ramon, who allegedly fired a gun around 2:12 am on January 1, 2026 along Santa Fe Street in Brgy. 118 in Tondo.
A police team arrested San Ramon at 5:50 a.m. after a concerned citizen reported the suspect firing his gun in the air.
“The arresting officers immediately proceeded to the reported location to verify the report. Upon arrival, they saw the suspect still holding the firearm in his right hand. (One of the police officers) approached the suspect and recovered a one unit silver-colored pistol loaded with six pieces of 9mm live ammunition,” the police report said.
San Ramon, who surrendered without incident, was brought to Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center for mandatory physical and medical examination prior to inquest proceedings.
In a separate incident, two other men were also arrested by the MPD ofr alleged indiscriminate gun firing in Sampaloc, Manila.
The police identified the suspects as Lourdino Tupas, Jr. and Rommel Doguiles who allegedly fired their gun in front of parking space located along Ligaya Street in Barangay 426 Zone 43 at around 1:20 a.m.
Tupas was 46 years old, while Doguiles was 30.
"The suspects admitted to the barangay chairwoman that they were the ones indiscriminately discharged of firearms," police said.
The MPD said the suspects underwent medico legal examination before they were turned over to the Sampaloc Police Station for further investigation and documentation. The recovered firearms, fired cartridges and live ammunition, on the other hand, were submitted to the MPD Forensic group for ballistic examination and proper custody.
A paraffin examination will also be conducted on the duo.
Police added they requested for firearm verification to determine if the suspects have a license to possess firearms. — Llanesca Panti/RF, GMA Integrated News
