QC logs 40 fire-related injuries; 62% lower vs previous New Year
The Quezon City government has recorded 40 firework-related injuries from December 21, 2025 to January 2, 2026, a figure 62% lower than the 107 reported cases during the same period last year.
Collated by the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division, 29 of the total cases were injured by fireworks, or those with passive involvement in fireworks use, while 11 held fireworks directly.
Twenty-seven injuries occurred in a street, 11 happened within the victims’ homes, and two took place in other locations.
Meanwhile, there have been no reported cases of firework ingestion or stray-bullet injuries and casualties, the Quezon City government said.
"Bagamat may iilan pa ring QCitizen ang nagtamo ng injury dahil sa paputok, itinuturing pa rin nating matagumpay ang ating kampanya at mga hakbang laban sa paggamit ng paputok,” Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said.
(Although there were still a few citizens who sustained injuries due to fireworks, we still consider our campaign and measures against the use of fireworks a success.)
“Patunay ito na kaya nating magsaya at salubungin ang bagong taon nang ligtas at mapayapa," she added.
(This proves that we can celebrate and welcome the New Year safely and peacefully)
The Department of Health earlier said the number of fireworks-related injuries in 2025 might be lower compared to 2024, but the injuries sustained by victims were more severe. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
