Manila LGU suspends Jan. 9 classes for Traslacion 2026
The City of Manila on Monday announced the suspension of classes at all levels, both public and private, on Friday, January 9, for the annual Feast of Jesus Nazareno.
“In line with Executive Order No. 1, Series of 2026, Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko’ Moreno Domagoso suspends classes at all levels, whether public or private, online or face-to-face, as well as work in local government offices in the City of Manila on Friday, January 9, 2026, in celebration of the Feast of the Black Nazarene,” the Manila Public Information Office said in an advisory.
Frontline services related to peace and order, public safety, traffic enforcement, disaster risk reduction and management, and health services will remain operational, the local government added.
The city government also said the suspension of work in national government offices and private companies located in Manila is "left to the discretion of their respective management.”
On the other hand, the Manila local government said there will be a road closure on the following routes starting 8 a.m. of Tuesday, January 6 for the Pahalik in Quirino Grandstand:
- Katigbak Parkway at South Road – only one lane will remain open for motorists heading to Manila Hotel and H2O Hotel, with plastic barriers in place
- A portion of Independence Road
Mayor Domagoso also announced the imposition of a liquor ban on January 9 within a 500-meter radius of Quiapo Church and along the Traslacion route.
“Ulitin ko po, sa paligid po ng simbahan, bawal po ang uminom sa kalsada, magbenta ng alak, at lahat ng dadaanan, within the path of Traslacion,” Domagoso said in his online address.
(I reiterate the warning that around the church, drinking on the streets and selling alcohol are prohibited, as well as along all routes within the path of the Traslacion.)—MCG, GMA Integrated News
