Palace declares January 9 special non-working day in Manila
Malacañang has declared Friday, January 9, 2026, a special non-working day in the City of Manila in observance of the Feast of Jesus Nazareno.
In Proclamation No. 1126, Acting Executive Secretary Ralph Recto said the declaration followed a request from the Manila city government to ensure an orderly procession of devotees and to facilitate traffic flow.
The Manila Police District (MPD) earlier announced the closure of several roads and traffic rerouting in the city for the upcoming Traslacion.
In an interview on Balitanghali, MPD spokesperson Police Major Philipp Ines urged Nazareno devotees to follow the directives of Quiapo Church and authorities for a safe and orderly Traslacion.
Celebrated every January 9, the Traslacion commemorates the transfer of the image of Jesus Nazareno from San Nicolas de Tolentino Church in Intramuros to Quiapo Church in the 1700s.—Mariel Celine Serquiña/MCG, GMA Integrated News
