What's new with the andas for Traslacion 2026

The Quiapo Church has unveiled the modified andas or carriage of the image of Jesus Nazareno that will be used for Traslacion 2026 on Friday, January 9, 2026.

According to Mariz Umali’s Tuesday report on “24 Oras,” the door of the Andas was made perforated to prevent the glass from getting moist like last year.

A driver can now also operate the andas using a steering wheel.

A fire extinguisher, power supply, electric fan, and exhaust were also placed inside the andas.

Up to five Hijos del Nazareno can sit inside the andas since the foot base was lowered for more space.

The foot base can be opened when repairs and inspections of the tires are needed.

The wheeles have four forklifts, and devotees cannot easily push the andas since it has a brake.

Unlike in 2024, where many devotees can sit on the andas, the modified version allows only one person to stand on each side.

The glass is made of tempered glass, so it won’t break easily.

Alex Irasga, technical working group head of Traslacion, said there are two sets of spare ropes in case they break.

“Hindi na nga lang kasing haba na 50 meters but enough para makatulong igiya at hataking ang ating andas nang mas maayos,” Irasga said.

(It won’t be as long as the 50 meters, but it is enough to help pull the andas.)

Val Samia, president of the Hijos del Nazareno Central, urged devotees to keep calm to maintain the procession's solemnity and avoid chaos.

About 100 police officers, who are also members of the Hijos, will help maintain order during the Traslacion.

The “Pahalik” will begin at 7 p.m. at the Quirino Grandstand on Wednesday, but some devotees chose to venerate the image of Jesus Nazareno at the Quiapo Church, praying for their health and expressing gratitude to God. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
