Nazareno shirts and other merchandise enjoy brisk sales as January 9 draws near

Vendors in Recto and Quiapo in Manila have begun selling merchandise targeted for devotees of Jesus Nazareno as the feast day on January 9 draws near.

During the Traslacion or procession of the image of Jesus Nazareno on Friday, devotees are expected to wear colors associated with the Nazareno, such as maroon or gold.

Traders were seen in Recto and Quiapo displaying their wares such as T-shirts, scarves, headbands, and face towels, hoping to catch devotees' attention.

 

Days before the Traslacion scheduled on January 9, 2026, vendors put up T-shirts for sale in Quiapo and Recto, hoping to catch devotees' attention. DANNY PATA

 

 

T-shirts are priced at P120-130, depending on the size; scarves cost P30; face towels at P20, and headbands going for P20.

 

Among the merchandise being sold are frames bearing the image of Jesus Nazareno. The Traslacion or procession during the Feast of Jesus Nazareno on January 9 is eagerly awaited by millions of devotees. DANNY PATA

 

 

The Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Jesus Nazareno or Quiapo Church earlier announced the schedule of activities in line with the upcoming celebration of the Feast of Jesus Nazareno:

  • January 7: Pabihis sa Poong Jesus Nazareno at Quiapo Church
  • January 7: Pahalik at Quirino Grandstand
  • January 8: Panalangin sa Takipsilim at Quirino Grandstand
  • January 9: Misa Mayor at Quirino Grandstand
  • January 9: Traslacion or procession from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church

 

Traslacion commemorates the arrival of the image of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno (Our Lord Jesus the Nazarene) from Acapulco, Mexico to the Philippines in 1600's and the transfer from Bagumbayan (old Intramuros) to Quiapo Church - St. John Baptist Parish in 1767.

The Philippine National Police said more or less 15,000 cops will be deployed to provide security for the event. 

The Manila Police District reminded Nazareno devotees that the following items are prohibited during the Traslacion:

    Firearms
    Fireworks and pyrotechnics
    Glass water canisters
    Hoodies (should not be worn)
    Caps or hats (should not be worn)
