Nazareno 2026: Gratitude, healing, better future among prayers of devotees

Prayers of gratitude and healing from devotees of Jesus Nazareno poured at the Quirino Grandstand as thousands participated in the traditional “Pahalik” a day before the annual Traslacion.

In Emil Sumangil’s Thursday report on “24 Oras,” Nazareno devotees believed that being exposed to the heat of the sun and waiting in long queues for the Pahalik are part of the sacrifice to convey their prayers to the Lord.

Antonio Avilar Sr., 69, prayed for better health after his knees have weakened from years of selling ice cream.

He also thanked Jesus Nazareno for allowing him to send his children to college through his hard work.

First-timer Malou Repol at Asuncion Oloya from Biñan, Laguna prayed for their children’s future as they attended the “Pahalik”.

From Bulacan, senior citizen Flora Pascua prayed for world peace, especially in the Philippines, and for an honest government.

Praying for strength and long life, Narciso de Leon, 68, shared that he grew closer to Jesus Nazareno after suffering a stroke during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Analyn Sarino and her siblings brought their children to the “Pahalik” since they wanted to teach them the tradition of venerating the Jesus Nazareno, as they have been practicing it for 12 years.

Meanwhile, Vince Kilala prayed for good health, more blessings, and peace for everyone.

Carmen Arniendo offered prayers for her child, who has autism, while Perlita Mauricio brought her 12-year-old daughter to the “Pahalik” in hopes of healing her from microcephaly.

Devotees said they do not regard the long queues and weather conditions as a problem, but rather as a chance and an opportunity to deepen their faith in Jesus Nazareno. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
