‘Pahalik’ of Jesus Nazareno image now until Jan. 10 – Quiapo Church

Pahalik Jesus Nazareno image prior to Traslacion

The traditional “Pahalik” or veneration of the image of the Jesus Nazareno will be extended until 10 a.m. of Saturday, January 10, the Quiapo Church said on Thursday.

Quiapo Church rector Father Ramon Jade Licuanan made the announcement on social media.

Silgen Cabrito, communications coordinator of Quiapo Church, said the extension of the “Pahalik” was due to the increase in the number of devotees.

“Nataon din na Biyernes ngayon at kinokonsider na dadagsa talaga ang bilang ng mga deboto, kaya minabuti ng ating Kura Paroko na i-extend ang ‘Pahalik’,” Cabrito said.

(Since the feast falls on a Friday this year and we expect a large number of devotees, our parish priest decided to extend the ‘Pahalik’.)

“Hindi po nangangahulugan na may magbabago sa schedule ng ating Traslacion. Tuloy pa din po ang mga programa at daloy ng ating Traslacion,” he added.

(This does not mean that there will be any changes in the schedule of the Traslacion. The programs and flow of the Traslacion will continue as planned.)

On Thursday, thousands of devotees of the Jesus Nazareno flocked to the Quirino Grandstand in Manila for the traditional “Pahalik,” a day before the yearly Traslacion.

The “Pahalik” began on Wednesday, January 7. It is one of the activities done in preparation for the Feast of Jesus Nazareno on January 9.

As of 9 p.m. Thursday, the Manila Police District (MPD) has logged around 13,000 devotees of the Jesus Nazareno at the Quirino Grandstand. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
