Youth devotees pin hopes on Jesus Nazareno
Some youth devotees offered prayers to Jesus Nazareno as they joined the 2026 Traslacion on Friday, January 9.
The devotees attempted to climb the andas, or the carriage carrying the 400-year-old black image of Jesus Christ, despite the ban.
"Masarap po sa pakiramdam. Lahat ng gusto mong sabihin sa Kanya nasasabi mo sa taas...," youth devotee Rain de Guia said in Emil Sumangil's report on "24 Oras".
(It felt good because we can say what we want to tell the Jesus Nazarene.)
"Ingatan po palagi ang nanay ko, kasi sya na lang ang natitira sa buhay ko," de Guia said.
(I asked him to take care of my mother because she is the only person I have right now.)
The Traslacion started early Friday after the andas or the carriage carrying the miraculous image departed the Quirino Grandstand at 4 a.m. after the “Panalangin sa Bukang Liwayway” or the morning prayer.
According to the Quiapo Church, the Traslacion will traverse the following roads:
From Quirino Grandstand
Left to Katigbak Drive

Straight to Ayala Boulevard

Along Finance Road, some devotees -- mostly young -- attempted to climb the andas, aggressively clinging to the back portion of the carriage. They were, however, helped by other participants.
"Sumampa po ako sa paminggan, tinulungan po ako ng ibang grupo po," de Guia added.
(I clung to the lever and was helped by other groups.)
An estimated one million devotees joined the Traslacion 2026 as of 8 p.m., according to the Quiapo Church Command Post.
"Mas maganda noon araw...Sa dami ngayon, ang gulo...kabataan. Hindi katulad ng may mga edad, pirmi lang kami,"' devotee Romulo Matta said.
