5 million devotees joined Traslacion 2026 — Manila LGU

At least five million devotees have participated in this year’s Traslacion or the procession of the Jesus Nazareno image, the Manila Public Information Office (PIO) said.

Data from the Innovation Integrated GIS and Data Hub of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) showed that the crowd count (5,100,700) was recorded from 4 a.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday.

This year’s Traslacion started at Quirino Grandstand at 4 a.m. Friday.

The route of the procession covers the following roads and streets: 

  • From Quirino Grandstand 
  • Left to Katigbak Drive
  • Right to Padre Burgos Street through Finance Road
  • Straight to Ayala Boulevard
  • L Palanca
  • R Quezon Boulevard
  • R Arlegui Street
  • R Fraternal Street
  • R Vergara Street
  • L Duque de Alba Street
  • L Castillejos Street
  • L Farnecio Street
  • R Arlegui Street
  • L Nepomuceno Street
  • L Concepcion Aguila Street
  • R Carcer Street
  • R Hidalgo Street through Plaza del Carmen

As of 4:25 a.m. Saturday, live footage of the procession showed the andas was outside the San Sebastian Church.

The Traslacion is one of the activities during the Feast of Jesus Nazareno.

The procession commemorates the arrival of the image of Nuestro Padre Jesus Nazareno (Our Lord Jesus the Nazarene) from Acapulco, Mexico to the Philippines in the 1600s and the transfer from Bagumbayan (old Intramuros) to the Quiapo Church - St. John Baptist Parish in 1767. 

Authorities had rolled out crowd management and safety plans for the annual celebration, with the Quiapo Church sharing locations of entry and exit points, as well as portalets and LED viewing screens to guide the devotees in the area. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
