7.3 million participated in Traslacion 2026 — Manila City LGU

Over seven million devotees participated in the Feast of Jesus Nazareno as of Saturday morning, the Manila City government reported.

In a Facebook post by its public information office, Manila City said this year's religious festivity has drawn 7,337,700 participants as of 7 a.m. Saturday.

It said the figure was a crowd estimate of the "accumulated grand total" using drone technology of the Innovation Integrated GIS and Data Hub of the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

This year's Traslacion, or the procession of the Jesus Nazareno image which draws millions of devotees yearly, has lasted nearly 30 hours as of posting time.

It started at Quirino Grandstand at 4 a.m. Friday.

Based on livestream video as of 9:50 a.m., the andas or carriage of the Jesus Nazareno was at the Quinta Market area as it approaches its home at Quiapo Church.

In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo said that as of 5 a.m. the total crowd estimate stands at 1.4 million, while those flocked to Quiapo Church was about 160,000.

At least two devotees of Jesus Nazareno have died amid this year's Traslacion in Manila, according to the NCRPO. 

Authorities have yet to release additional information about these deaths, but the NCRPO has confirmed that the list does not include the photojournalist who passed away on Friday while covering the procession, according to GMA Integrated News reporter Jhomer Apresto. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
