62 dengue cases reported in QC from January 1 to 8, 2026 —LGU
Quezon City had 62 dengue cases on the first week of 2026, the local government unit said, according to a report by Carlo Mateo on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday.
The figures are from January 1 to 8, the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division said Friday.
The tally of 62 dengue cases is lower by 85% than the tally in the same period in 2025, it added.
District 2 had the most number of dengue cases at 25.
Most of the patients, or 44 of the total cases, are aged 20 years old and below.
No death has been reported due to dengue this year, the LGU said.
In a message to GMA Integrated News, Quezon City 2nd District Representative Ralph Tulfo pointed to his district's population size as the possible reason for 40% of the dengue cases in the city being reported there.
"For the record po, ang mga barangay ng 2nd District ang may pinakamalalaking populasyon sa Quezon City. Apektado man po ang buong QC, yung population size ng mga barangays namin would probably explain the dengue cases in our district," he said.
(For the record, District 2's barangays have the biggest populations in Quezon City. So the entire city is affected, but the population size of our barangays would probably explain the dengue cases in our district.)
He added that clean-up drives are regularly conducted in the district.
"We have been consistent po sa aming clean-up drives sa community and donation of insect repellants to schools and barangays para mapigilan ang paglaganap ng dengue. We will continue to do our part sa pagtulong po sa aming lungsod upang masolusyunan ito [to help our city solve this issue]," Tulfo said.
The Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division advised the public to be vigilant and adopt the following measures to prevent contracting dengue:
- Search and destroy drums, water tanks, pails, and other containers that may collect water and serve as breeding ground for dengue-carrying mosquitoes.
- Self-protection measures such as wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants, using mosquito nets, and using anti-mosquito spray or mosquito repellant are encouraged.
- Seek medical attention at the nearest health center if there are symptoms of dengue such as fever, headache, and stomachache.
Free dengue test and checkup are available at health centers, the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division said. —with a report by Tina Panganiban-Perez/KG/BM, GMA Integrated News
