Illegal turning, unattended illegal parking among top 5 traffic violations in 2025

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has released the top five traffic violations in 2025 as it reminded motorists that driving comes with a responsibility to obey traffic rules.

According to Vonne Aquino’s Monday report on “24 Oras,” the MMDA Traffic Ticket Management Division said the leading traffic violation in 2025 is illegal turning.

This is followed by unattended illegal parking, disregarding traffic signs, disregarding the number coding scheme, and attended illegal parking.

The data was collated from the No Contact Apprehension Policy and physical apprehension.

MMDA General Manager and Spokesperson Nicolas Torre III said some drivers violate traffic rules because it is more convenient for them.

The number of these violations is about the same as the traffic violations in 2024.

The driver’s license of traffic violators will not be confiscated for now, following the instructions from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to the Land Transportation Office (LTO).

If traffic violators are caught, their details will be listed on the violation ticket and encoded in the LTO office.

From 15 calendar days, cases must now be resolved within 15 working days, excluding holidays and weekends.

Driver’s license revocation or automatic suspension applies only if the case remains unresolved within the given period.

However, Bicol Saro party-list Representative Terry Ridon plans to question the new police.

“Kung nahuli ako ngayong Saturday at nahuli ulit ako sa Wednedsay, malalaman ba ng enforcer na nahuli na ako noong Saturday? I don’t think so,” he said.

(If I’m caught this Saturday and again on Wednesday, would the enforcer know I was already caught on Saturday? I don’t think so.)

The lawmaker added that the Traffic Code provides 15 calendar days to resolve a traffic violation.

LTO chief Markus Lacanilao said DOTr’s directive is temporary and improved rules will be crafted. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA Integrated News
