Police officer stabs fellow cop in Camp Crame

A police officer was injured after being stabbed by a fellow cop inside Camp Crame in Quezon City on Tuesday morning, according to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

Based on the CIDG report, the victim was identified as Police Executive Master Sergeant Eric Castro and the suspect as Police Senior Master Sergeant Michael Camillo.

The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. at the kitchen area of the Anti-Organized Crime Unit (AOCU) while personnel were preparing for a preliminary investigation at the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office.

Witnesses said they were having breakfast when restricted AOCU personnel Castro entered the kitchen, followed shortly by Camillo.

Camillo allegedly drew a kitchen knife, prompting Castro to rush toward him and attempt to restrain the suspect by embracing him.

During the struggle, Camillo was able to stab Castro in the back.

Castro was brought to the Philippine National Police General Hospital and remains under observation due to blood loss. He is also awaiting X-ray examination.

Initial investigation showed that earlier that morning around 5:30 a.m., an officer had already reported a sudden change in Camillo’s behavior.

After the incident, authorities secured the crime scene and recovered the kitchen knife, which will be subjected to forensic examination by the PNP Crime Laboratory.

Camillo is now under custody pending administrative and criminal investigations.

Police officials said they are coordinating with the Prosecutor’s Office for the filing of appropriate charges and have ordered a thorough administrative inquiry.

This includes a medical and psychological evaluation of the suspect. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
