LTO summons gov’t worker who hit motorist in viral road rage video
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a show cause order against a government employee who went viral for striking a fellow motorist during an altercation with a fellow motorist.
In a statement on Tuesday, the LTO said it summoned the government employee and a representative from the government agency that he is working for.
They were directed to present themselves before the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) on January 27 at 1 p.m.
“Kailangan nila ipaliwanag kung bakit hindi sila dapat managot ng administratibo sa kasong obstruction at ang lisensya ng nasabing government employee ay hindi dapat suspendihin sa pagiging improper person to operate a motor vehicle dahil sa kanyang behavior sa pampublikong kalsada,” the LTO said.
(They should explain why they must not be held accountable for administrative cases of obstruction and why the license of the government employee should not be suspended for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle because of their behiavior on public roads.)
The LTO cited a viral video on social media that showed the government employee arguing and striking another motorist in a fit of anger.
LTO chief and Transportation Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao reminded government employees that they are expected to be examples of good behavior who respect the law, especially on public roads.
“Walang makakalusot sa insidenteng ito at ang nararapat na proseso ng paglilitis ay gagawin ng tama. Ang LTO ay determinadong tiyakin na ang hustisya ay maibibigay at ipapakita na ang kaligtasan at kagandahang-asal sa kalsada ay una sa lahat ng ating mga priyoridad,” Lacanilao said.
(We will not let this incident slip by without anyone being held accountable, and the appropriate process for hearing this will be done. The LTO is determined to ensure that justice will be served and show that we prioritize safety and good behavior on roads.)
The vehicle of the government employee was also placed under an LTO alarm status, while his driver’s license was suspended for 90 days while the investigation is ongoing.
The LTO warned that the respondent’s failure to appear before the LTO and submit their explanation will mean that the complaint will be resolved based on the evidence at hand. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
