MMDA enforcers get violation ticket for illegal parking
Several enforcers of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) were among those who received tickets for road violations during an inspection on Friday.
According to a "24 Oras" report by Darlene Cay on Friday, some MMDA personnel were found to have illegally parked along EDSA-Cubao cor. Monte de Piedad, Quezon City.
“Ang tagal na kasi [na ganito]… Alam mo na yung bawal pero marami namang nagpaparking din… Wala tayong magagawa, trabaho lang nila,” said an MMDA personnel who received a ticket.
(It’s been [like this] for so long… You know that it’s not allowed, but a lot of people also park there… There’s nothing we can do, it’s their job.)
“We will implement the law fair and square, at lalong-lalo na po sa mga empleyado po natin at sa mga enforcers natin na tayo naman po nagpapatupad ng batas,” said MMDA head of the Special Operations Group Strike Force Gabriel Go during the inspection.
A taxi was also issued a ticket for loading and unloading passengers in an unauthorized area along EDSA-Cubao.
“Kasi po mayroong pasahero na pumara doon, tapos sabi ng enforcer na babae na pasok ka na lang,” he said.
(I had a passenger who flagged me down there, and the female enforcer told me to just go in.)
MMDA also impounded a van illegally parked along N. Domingo after its driver was found to have a suspended license.
“Once na your license is suspended, ano po yan eh, matik po yan. Yung mga privileges within, hindi niyo pwede magamit. So technicallly, lifted din po ang karapatan niyang magmaneho ng sasakyan,” shared Go.
(Once your license is suspended, that is automatic. The privileges within can no longer be used. Technically, your rights to drive a car are lifted as well.)
Meanwhile, clearing operations were also conducted on the sidewalk in Malabito Street, C. Benitez, and Arayat Market.
“Okay lang naman kasi dapat lang naman talaga eh… pero dapat equal, dapat lahat, kasi hanggang doon yan, di ba, hindi lang naman dapat ako,” a vendor said.
(It’s okay because it’s only right to do that… but it should be equal, it should affect everyone, not just me.)
MMDA said that the extended stores obstructed the sidewalk and forced pedestrians to walk along the road, which caused traffic and risked their safety. —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
