NAPOLCOM: Firefighter berated by cop in viral video to file complaint

NAPOLCOM: Firefighter berated by Marikina cop in viral video to file complaint

The volunteer firefighter berated by a police officer who blocked a fire truck’s path will be filing a complaint before the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) on Monday.

“In the course of our inquiry, we were also informed that the volunteer firefighter involved intends to formally file his complaint with NAPOLCOM on Monday. This is a welcome development, as it allows for a full and fair determination of accountability,” NAPOLCOM chief Ralph Calinisan said in a statement on Sunday.

The police officer was relieved from his post following the incident that went viral on social media, the Marikina City Police Office said.

This was despite having reached a settlement with the owner of the emergency volunteer vehicle.

The cop was also reassigned and will face an investigation, the Marikina City Police added.

Calinisan received information that the police officer, who held the rank of police corporal, has been placed under the Marikina City Police’s Headquarters Support Service (HSS).

“While this is a necessary initial step, administrative accountability does not end there,” he said.

“The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM), as the ‘police of the police,’ will ensure that only those who are truly fit to wear the uniform and the badge remain in the police service. Our investigation will therefore continue, independently and thoroughly,” he added.

Earlier, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued show cause orders against the cop and the owner and driver of the fire truck following the altercation that went viral on social media. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
