Mud spill from dump truck shuts Nagtahan Flyover for 4 hours

The northbound lane of the Nagtahan Flyover in Manila was temporarily closed at around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday after mud spilled from a dump truck.

According to James Agustin’s report on Balitanghali, the mud scattered across the roadway was manually shoveled during initial clearing operations.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) issued a ticket to the 34-year-old driver of the dump truck for obstruction.

The driver said the truck was hauling mud from post-excavation works at the Skyway project in Pandacan and was bound for Obando, Bulacan when two of the truck’s locks snapped, causing about half of the load to spill onto the road.

“Mabilis po ang takbo ko kasi nakabwelo ako galing sa kabilang tulay. Naramdaman ko ang pagpatak ng putik, kaya huminto ako. Doon na lalong bumuhos ang karga,” the driver said.

(I was driving fast because I gained momentum coming from the other bridge. I felt the mud starting to fall, so I stopped. That’s when the load poured out.)

The incident caused traffic congestion in the area.

Personnel from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) also assisted in shoveling the mud. A payloader was deployed to speed up clearing operations.

The northbound lane of the flyover was reopened to motorists at around 8:30 a.m.—Vince Angelo Ferreras/MCG, GMA Integrated News
