Manila cop arrested for alleged carnapping, kidnapping of delivery driver

A police officer of the Manila Police District (MPD) was arrested for allegedly carnapping a vehicle and kidnapping a delivery driver, the Philippine National Police - Internal Affairs Service (IAS) said Monday.

At a press conference, IAS Inspector General Atty. Brigido J. Dulay said the police staff sergeant allegedly forcibly took the delivery driver along with his truck in the early Saturday morning.

“Siya po ay naging biktima ng isang carnapping na ang kasama na rin po dito, ang magiging kaso nito ay kidnapping sapagkat dinala po siya, kasama po siyang kinuha, at grave coercion, pati theft,” Dulay said.

(He was the victim of a carnapping, and also kidnapping, because he was also taken, and grave coercion, even theft.)

“Ngayon po ay mahaharap po siya sa kasong kriminal at administratibo po dito sa amin sa IAS,” he added.

(Now the suspect will face criminal and administrative charges here at the IAS.)

The victim said he accepted a booking around 1 a.m. but upon arriving at the pickup point, he was allegedly intercepted by several men who introduced themselves as cops.

According to him, the suspects then took control of his van and ordered him to come with them.

The victim claimed he was brought to Imus, Cavite, where his van was allegedly used to transport suspected stolen cable wires removed from a manhole.

They proceeded to other locations including Muntinlupa City where the cables were reportedly transferred to another vehicle.

According to the delivery driver, he was threatened and thus feared for his safety. When he was released, the victim immediately went to a police station in Manila to report the incident.

Authorities said the cop is believed to be the mastermind of the illegal activity.

Aside from police sergeant, three other suspects who are minors were brought to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). —RF, GMA Integrated News
