1 reported dead in Negros Occidental floods; over 2,400 families affected - OCD

At least one senior citizen was reported to have died as a result of the flooding in Negros Occidental that was caused by the shear line, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Tuesday.

“Sa kasawiang palad, mayroon po tayong nabanggit kanina na isang kababayan natin doon na nasawi, again this for validation. Ayun po yung isang senior citizen na kababayan doon. Wala na pong naidagdag sa datos na ‘yun,” said OCD spokesperson Junie Castillo in “Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.”

(Unfortunately, as we mentioned earlier, one of our fellow citizens there has died. Again, this is for validation. That is one senior citizen. No other [casualties] have been added to that data.)

The OCD said that there were 8,927 individuals in the province affected.

“Ito ay umaabot ng 2,409 families na nagmula po sa pitong local government units at sa 24 na barangays,” said Castillo.

(This reached 2,409 families coming from seven local government units and 24 barangays.)

Of the more than 8,000 individuals affected, the OCD said that 4,300 individuals are in evacuation centers.

Meanwhile, nearly 200 houses were damaged.

“So far what we have, doon sa na-damage na kabahayan, ito ay umaabot sa 193 na mga bahay ang na-damage po. This is composed of 38 na totally damaged houses at saka 155 na mga partially damaged houses,” said Castillo.
