Man arrested after more than 20 years for friend’s murder

A man was arrested in Binangonan, Rizal on Tuesday for the murder of his friend more than 20 years ago.

According to Emil Sumangil’s exclusive report for 24 Oras, the suspect tried to resist authorities from the Eastern Police District’s Mobile Force Battalion (EPD MFB) during his arrest.

“His appearance has changed. He gained weight and now has a family in Binangonan, Rizal. Everything about him has changed after all this time,” said EPD MFB spokesperson Police Lieutenant Cleo Nobleza.

The suspect was found in Barangay Ithan on Talim Island in Binangonan, where he had been hiding for years.

“Our suspect was even posting reels on Facebook. He might have thought that after 26 years, everyone would have forgotten what he did,” Nobleza added.

Police said the suspect stabbed his friend after being punched, reportedly believing that the victim had feelings for his wife.

“I have waited a very long time for justice, but now, it has finally been fulfilled,” said Ellen Balaton-Cabingan, the victim’s wife.
