MMDA suspends number coding on February 17, Chinese New Year
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Friday announced the suspension of the expanded number coding scheme on February 17 in light of the Chinese New Year celebration.
“Suspendido ang pagpapatupad ng expanded number coding scheme sa Martes, Pebrero 17, 2026, isang special-non working holiday, bilang pagdiriwang ng Chinese New Year,” the MMDA said.
(The implementation of the expanded number coding scheme is suspended on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, a special non-working holiday, in celebration of the Chinese New Year.)
“Awtomatikong sinususpinde ang number coding tuwing official at special non-working holidays,” it added.
(Number coding is automatically suspended during official and special non-working holidays.)
The MMDA advised motorists that traffic flow is often heavy in areas like Binondo in Manila during the occasion when the Chinese Filipino community carries out its traditional activities.
Motorists should plan their trips ahead, strictly follow traffic laws, and always drive with caution, the agency reminded. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
