PNP: LRT-1 has no contributory negligence in fall incident

The Philippine National Police (PNP) sees no liability on the part of the management of the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) in the fatal fall of a student from FPJ Station in Quezon City.

“Magkakaroon lang po ng pananagutan ang LRT na kung may nakita silang contributory negligence sa parte po ng LRT,” PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said at a press briefing.

(The LRT will only be held accountable if the police find contributory negligence on the part of the LRT.)

“Pero sa ngayon po, wala po silang nakikita na contributory negligence sa part po ng LRT,” he added.

(But for now, they do not find any contributory negligence on the part of the LRT.)

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) conducted an investigation into the incident involving a male student who reportedly fell from FPJ Station around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to the QCPD, a CCTV footage provided by the LRT-1 management showed the victim walking back and forth around the area. He was also looking at the road.

After a few minutes, the incident happened.

A vehicle on the road also hit him after the fall. The driver was placed under police custody in accordance with the PNP’s standard operating procedures (SOP) as the incident involved a fatality.

The driver was released after the father of the victim executed a notarized letter stating that he is not pursuing a complaint against the driver. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
