Over 7,000 cops deployed in Metro Manila for Chinese New Year activities

More than 7,000 police personnel will be deployed in Metro Manila for the celebration of Chinese New Year, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Monday. 

“Naglatag po ang NCRPO ng kabuuan na 7,179 na personnel sa buong Metro Manila para sa ating maagang selebrasyon ngayong [February] 16 hanggang bukas. Kabilang dito ang ating anti-criminality operations, law enforcement checkpoints, border control points, maging foot at mobile patrols, traffic management, at ating intelligence monitoring,” said NCRPO spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo in Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon.

(The NCRPO has deployed a total of 7,179 personnel across Metro Manila for our early celebrations starting today, [February] 16, until tomorrow. This includes our anti-criminality operations, law enforcement checkpoints, border control points, as well as foot and mobile patrols, traffic management, and our intelligence monitoring.) 

The NCRPO official added that their civil disturbance management units, reserved forces, Special Weapons and Tactics and Explosive Ordnance Disposal units, as well as medical responders are also on standby. 

Asilo added that the PNP has also coordinated with local government units for crowd and traffic management. 

“Mahigpit po ang ating ginawang koordinasyon sa mga local government units maging sa mga barangay officials, force multipliers at iba pang concerned agencies para sa crowd management, traffic control, at emergency response,” she said. 

(We are in tight coordination with local government units, as well as barangay officials, force multipliers, and other concerned agencies for crowd management, traffic control, and emergency response.) 

Ramadan 

Further, the NCRPO will deploy 354 cops in the capital region for Ramadan, which will start within this week. 

The NCR Police said that 224 personnel will be deployed to 103 Muslim mosques in Metro Manila and 130 cops in 74 Islamic communities. 

“Patuloy po yung ating ginawang heightened police visibility para sa mga lugar ng pagtitipon at pagsamba. Mayroon po tayong nasa record natin na 103 na mga mosque po dito sa buong Metro Manila kung saan mayroon tayong ide-deploy na  224 na personnel bilang police presence at magpa-patrol,” said Asilo. “At siyempre yung mga Islamic communities natin nasa 74 ‘yan at mayroon tayong 130 na mga police personnel na ide-deploy.”  

(We are continuing our heightened police visibility in areas of gathering and worship. We have 103 mosques on record throughout Metro Manila where we will deploy 224 personnel for police presence and patrols.
