Senior citizen killed, PWD missing in Intramuros fire
A senior citizen was killed while a female person with a disability (PWD) remains missing after a fire broke out in a residential area in Intramuros, Manila.
According to Jhomer Apresto’s Thursday report on “24 Oras,” Johnny Jacob, Barangay 655 chairman, said the senior citizen was brought to a hospital for treatment but later passed away.
Meanwhile, responders are still looking for the missing person since the fire left a lot of debris.
Affected residents are temporarily staying at the San Augustin Church and the Delpan Sports Complex.
According to the Manila local government, the blaze reached fourth alarm and lasted for six hours before it was extinguished past 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Aside from the narrow streets and the lack of fire hydrants, strong winds made it even more difficult for firefighters to respond to the fire.
Jacob said a lover’s quarrel led the alleged suspect, who was recently released from detention, to start the fire.
