A delivery van crashed into a house on K-6th Street in Kamias, Quezon City on Wednesday.

According to Glen Juego’s report in Super Radyo dzBB, the delivery assistant started the vehicle despite not knowing how to drive. But barangay officials believe he was drunk.

When Super Radyo dzBB asked him, the wounded delivery assistant said that he thought he was entering his bedroom.

Emergency responders doused him with water to bring him to his senses.

In Jamie Santos’ report on “Saksi”, CCTV footage from the barangay showed the delivery van pulling out of a garage. It suddenly accelerated and hit the gate of the house in front.

The delivery van also hit two parked vehicles on the street before ramming into the wall of a house and crashing into its front yard.

One of the vehicles hit was badly damaged and the owner can no longer get it to start. The other car that was hit was also damaged.

“He said that he and his companion were drinking. Afterwards, when he got inside, he thought it was his room, so he started the engine and drove straight ahead,” one of the owners of the damaged cars said in Filipino.

No one was hurt in the house where the delivery van crashed.

Meanwhile, the delivery assistant suffered wounds on his right arm and hand.

The delivery assistant also admitted that he was under the influence of alcohol.

When asked if he knew how to drive, he answered in the negative

“I'll admit, I was drunk. But I’m not sure how I drove it. I was just shocked to find myself here,” the delivery assistant said.

Initial investigation showed that the delivery van was parked in the garage with the engine turned off while the driver left it to use the restroom.

The suspect suddenly went into the vehicle, started the engine, and drove straight out of the garage.

He was brought to Traffic Sector 3 for a thorough investigation. He will also undergo an alcohol breath analyzer test to determine if he was indeed under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, the report added.

“Should he be found liable, he may be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple damage to property,” said Quezon City Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit Chief Police Lieutenant Colonel Josef Geoffrey Lyndon Lim. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/MCG, GMA Integrated News—Vince Angelo Ferreras/MCG, GMA Integrated News
