Security guard dies of stroke during clash at Las Piñas subdivision
A security guard suffered and later died of a stroke in the middle of a confrontation between two homeowners’ groups at a subdivision in Las Piñas City.
According to John Consulta’s report in “24 Oras” on Wednesday, the security guard was from the side of the homeowners’ association that was being evicted.
He collapsed during the violent confrontation and was immediately moved away from the crowd. The security guard eventually died.
The tension did not subside until a group accompanied by a sheriff from the Human Settlements Adjudication Commission (HSAC) of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) entered the office of the homeowners’ association.
The group that was being evicted did not expect the violent confrontation which resulted in the death of one of their security guards.
“We will pursue legal remedies and take action regarding the death of our security guard. Any form of violence should never be employed when carrying out operations of this nature,” Euan Toralballa, former president of the BFRV Homeowners Association, said in Filipino.
The other homeowners’ group claimed that the other party is at fault.
They alleged that despite the expiration of the other group’s terms of office two years ago, they failed to comply with the DHSUD’s order to vacate the office.
“We do not want violence. We are not here to fight, we are here to serve…For the longest time, they didn’t want to cooperate and step down,” Jose Deo Aguinaldo, the current president of BFRV Homeowners Association, said in Filipino.
“If they cooperated, their guards were told to cooperate, none of the hustling, none of the commotion will happen,” he added.
In the end, the DHSUD sheriff turned over control to the new homeowners association, which promised to hold elections in their subdivision which has 10,000 registered households. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/JMA, GMA Integrated News
