Marcos inspects 'Mt. Kamuning' replacement

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Thursday inspected the new Kamuning Footbridge and Busway Station, which is designed to function as a seamless, intermodal access facility that will improve commuter safety and accessibility.

Prior to his inspection of the station, Marcos climbed the stairs of the NIA-Southroad-Scout Borromeo footbridge—infamously tagged as "Mt. Kamuning,'' together with First Lady Louise ''Liza'' Araneta-Marcos and son, William Vincent ''Vinny'' Marcos.

''Well, the old one is not very good at all. At saka hindi mo ma-realize ‘pag nandito ka sa baba, gumagalaw pala ‘yan baka may dumadaan. Kaya mas mabuti-buti na ito,'' Marcos said.

(You won't realize that the footbridge is moving once vehicles pass through. So this new station is better.)

''That's why the first time that we saw it, ininspekyon namin ‘yun ay sabi ko talagang hindi praktikal ‘yung kanilang ginawa,'' he added.

(When I inspected it, I mentioned that what they did was not practical.)

Marcos said Mt. Kamuning would soon be demolished.

''Wala na ‘yung Mt. Kamuning. Tatanggalin na natin ‘yung Mt. Kamuning para tuloy-tuloy na,'' he said.

(We will demolish Mt. Kamuning.)

Following a site inspection last June 1, 2025, Marcos had directed the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to implement the structure’s replacement with a safer, more inclusive, and commuter-friendly design that is aligned with universal accessibility standards.

The Kamuning Busway Station rehabilitation involves the upgrading of passenger facilities to enhance comfort, safety, and operational functionality. Improvements focused on platform expansion, universal accessibility, commuter/personnel amenities, and wayfinding and transit information systems.

The total contract cost of this project was P87,326,815.10. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
