P29.7M in suspected ecstasy, shabu seized at NAIA – BOC
Authorities recently intercepted three abandoned inbound parcels containing P29.712 million worth of suspected ecstasy and shabu at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported on Thursday.
During an interdiction operation on Monday, authorities seized suspected ecstasy valued at P5.259 million and suspected shabu worth P24.45 million.
Two of the parcels were from Berlin, Germany and were declared as “garden sculpture.” It was consigned to a recipient in Pasig City.
“Upon examination, each parcel was found to contain a gold figurine concealing heat-sealed transparent plastic bags of suspected ecstasy weighing approximately 2,032 grams and 2,014 grams, respectively,” the BOC said in a statement.
The third parcel was from Lusaka, Zambia and was declared as “vehicle air filters.” The supposed recipient was from Dasmariñas, Cavite.
“Inspection revealed four cylindrical air filters wrapped in carbon paper and masking tape containing approximately 3,596 grams of suspected shabu,” the BOC said.
The seized substances will be submitted to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Laboratory Service for examination.
Those involved may face charges for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and RA 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
