P640M worth of marijuana seized at Manila Port, 1 arrested

A man was arrested after being named as the consignee of P640 million worth of marijuana at the Manila International Container Port (MICP) in Tondo, Manila.

According to a statement on Saturday, authorities intercepted around 800 kilograms of suspected kush or marijuana that had been vacuum-sealed and packed inside 80 black plastic storage boxes last Saturday.

Authorities estimated the total amount of the seized contraband at P640 million.

As a result, they launched an operation against the shipment's declared consignee. Also seized were a mobile phone and an ID card.

The suspect is facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and is now undergoing inquest proceedings. —Jiselle Anne C. Casucian/RF, GMA Integrated News
