The National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) on Tuesday called for legal action against a TikTok user who allegedly pretended to be a person with disability (PWD) to use priority lanes and purchase tickets for online content.

“Faking a disability, as seen in this TikTok incident, diminishes the struggles of those truly affected and misuses resources intended for them. It undermines the purpose of priority access,” NCDA said in a statement.

“While we support the advisory from the Light Rail Manila Corporation, we also seek legal penalties under applicable laws for those involved in the video,” it added.

On Monday, the LRMC, operator of LRT-1, flagged the incident and said it is reviewing the case and investigating the circumstances.

NCDA described the act as “unethical” and harmful to vulnerable commuters.

“To maintain the integrity of priority access, strict enforcement by authorities, along with a shared commitment from all passengers to empathy, honesty, and respect for those in need, is essential,” the council said.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
