Jeepney drivers struggle to earn amid rising fuel prices
Jeepney drivers are looking for ways to make ends meet amid the rising cost of petroleum products.
According to Oscar Oida’s Thursday report on “24 Oras,” jeepney driver Gerry Cua spends more time on the road to earn more.
He said he began driving at around 5 a.m. and ended as late as 12 midnight.
Cua fears that, if the situation worsens, he might have to pause the education of his youngest child, who is currently in Grade 9.
If fuel prices keep rising, jeepney driver Elmer Ubalan plans to move his family to Cagayan de Oro and work for a construction firm.
He said living conditions would be better since they are not renting in the province.
Jeepneys in Malolos, Bulacan and Mandaluyong City were seen parked awaiting passengers.
Jeepney drivers said a fare increase would help them cope with rising fuel prices.
However, passengers are worried since there are no salary increases. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
