Parcels with P135M in shabu flagged at NAIA cargo center

Authorities recently intercepted two parcels with almost 20 kilos of shabu worth P135 million at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Complex’s Cargo Center in Pasay City.

In a statement on Sunday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said the abandoned inbound parcels were flagged during X-ray screening by personnel of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) on March 13.

Verification by K-9 units of the PNP and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) confirmed the presence of illegal drugs hidden inside coffee and tea packages.

Onsite testing of the parcels yielded positive results for methamphetamine hydrochloride.

The intercepted packages contained almost 20 kilos of shabu worth P135.96 million and were consigned to a recipient in Marilao, Bulacan.

“Ang bawat operasyon na kagaya nito ay patunay na tuloy-tuloy ang laban ng PNP sa ilegal na droga,” said PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr.

(Each operation such as this is proof that the PNP is consistently fighting illegal drugs.)

“Hindi natin papayagang maipasok ang mga ipinagbabawal na ilegal na droga sa ating bansa, at patuloy naming palalakasin ang pakikipagtulungan sa iba pang ahensya upang protektahan ang mamamayan,” he added.

(We will not let illegal drugs enter our country and we will continue to strengthen our cooperation with other agencies to protect our citizens.) — JMA, GMA Integrated News
