Ex-close in security of Isko Moreno shot dead in Tondo

A retired policeman and former close-in security escort of Manila Mayor Isko Moreno was gunned down by two men aboard a motorcycle in the wee hours of Sunday.

In Jamie Santos’ report on “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday, CCTV footage showed the victim aboard a motorcycle entering a street in Barangay 134 in Balut, Tondo. He was followed by two men aboard a motorcycle.

The two suspects then stopped and one of them pointed a gun at the victim, who initially tried to fight back but was felled by two shots.

The suspects appeared to have taken something from the victim. Witnesses said the suspects took the victim’s jewelry.

The victim was later identified as George Capistrano, a retired policeman and former close-in security aide of Moreno.

Residents worked together to rush the victim to the hospital, where Capistrano was declared dead on arrival.

The Manila Police District (MPD) is still investigating the incident and if robbery was the suspects’ only motive. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
