Sedan kills 4 in Angono crash
Four persons died after an out-of-control sedan rammed a motorcycle and crashed into a bakery in Angono on Sunday afternoon.
According to EJ Gomez’s report on “24 Oras” Monday, the incident occurred along Manila East Road.
CCTV footage of the crash scene showed the car traveling at an unusual speed before striking a motorcycle, sending its driver and passenger flying.
Three people were pinned under the car, while two others were thrown into the bakery, where the motorcycle had also come to rest.
“Nung dumaan yung sasakyan, ang bilis. Biglang bumulusok nang ganun,” said Jovencio Bagaporo, who witnessed the incident.
(When the vehicle passed by, it was going so fast. It just suddenly lunged forward like that.)
Investigators from the Angono police said the car driver claimed the car allegedly lost its brakes.
“Allegedly nawalan ng preno yung driver. Pabulusok pababa hanggang sa magdire-diretsyo siya tapos salpok yung mag-boyfriend na naka-motor, tapos dire-diretsyo din sa naka-standby, at yung namimili doon sa bakery na dalawang bata,” said Angono Police investigator Police Executive Master Sergeant Hector Cardinales.
(Allegedly, the driver lost her brakes. The car hurtled downhill, hitting the couple on the motorcycle, then went straight into bystanders and the two children at the bakery.)
The police arrested the 66-year-old female driver of the sedan.
“Bilang sabi niya na nawalan daw siya ng preno hanggang sa na-out of control na siya sa kanyang minamanehong sasakyan,” Cardinales said.
(According to her, she allegedly lost her brakes and lost control of the vehicle.)
The front of the sedan was severely damaged in the collision.
Among the fatalities were a 69-year-old homeless woman, who died on the spot, while four other victims were rushed to the hospital.
Among them, a 15-year-old boy and the 26-year-old female rider later died at the hospital.
The latter’s 23-year-old boyfriend, who was her passenger, died early Monday.
A 13-year-old boy survived with injuries, including the loss of several teeth.
A family member of the motorcycle-riding couple said they were on their way to a birthday party in Tanay.
“Sobrang malapit sa akin yung dalawang ‘yun…Sobrang malaki yung pahihinayang namin na wala na yung dalawa kasi sobrang bait nung dalawang ‘yun,” said Jeng Lazaro.
(Those two were very close to me… We feel such a great sense of loss now that they are gone because they were so kind.)
