MMDA launches free end-of-trip shower facilities in Pasig
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday inaugurated through a ceremony its Bike-to-Work End-of-Trip (EoT) Facilities at the Motorcycle Riding Academy in Pasig City.
In a statement, the MMDA said the facility features four shower rooms designed for cyclists to make a more comfortable and accessible transition from cycling to the workplace.
The facility includes a shower room each for male and female users, and two all-gender rooms.
Aside from shower areas, the EoT hub includes secure bike racks and changing spaces for cyclists.
"Kami dito sa MMDA ay gumagawa ng programa at asahan n’yo po na maglalagay pa kami ng mga similar facilities all over Metro Manila para matulungan ang mga kababayan na nagbibisikleta lalo na ‘yung mga pumapasok sa trabaho at opisina,” MMDA chairperson Romando Artes said.
(We here at the MMDA are working on a program and the public can expect that we will install similar facilities all over Metro Manila to help our fellow citizens who ride bicycles, especially those who go to work and the office.)
For his part, MMDA general manager Nicolas Torre III said: “Ang goal natin dito ay simple lamang (Our goal is simple) –to protect the welfare of the cyclists.”
The MMDA plans to expand these facilities to other areas in Metro Manila.
Meanwhile, LPG distributor Republic Gas Corp. (Regasco) is set to donate hygiene supplies, including soaps, shampoos, and 1,000 towels, for the facility.
Siklista Pilipino’s Pio G. Fortuno Jr. expressed gratitude for the MMDA’s program.
“I would like to thank the MMDA for recognizing cyclists. I hope a lot of private companies would follow the example of MMDA na maglagay din sila ng bike-friendly facilities,” he said.
MMDA is also exploring the possibility of a 24/7 operation in the facility to better serve and accommodate more cyclists.
For monitoring and security, users are required to register upon entry before accessing the facilities for free, the MMDA said.
