NCRPO: 4 nabbed for animal cruelty in QC, Navotas

Four individuals are facing charges for alleged animal cruelty in Navotas City and Quezon City, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Tuesday.

In Navotas City, authorities arrested three people in Barangay Bagumbayan South for allegedly butchering and selling dog meat.

The arrest was carried out following a report from a concerned citizen. Authorities also caught the suspects in the act of butchering a dog.

Authorities also recovered kitchen knives, dog chains, several pieces of dog meat, and an LPG tank.

One of the suspects allegedly resisted arrest while another attempted to interfere with police operations.

In Quezon City, a 53-year-old man was arrested in Barangay Holy Spirit after allegedly beating a pet cat to death.

CCTV footage showed the suspect hitting the cat on the head with a piece of wood.

The arrested individuals will face charges for violating the Animal Welfare Act, Anti-Rabies Act, the Food Safety Act, Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code, as well as resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.

NCRPO chief Police Major General Anthony Aberin urged the public to report animal cruelty and other illegal acts to the nearest police station. — JMA, GMA Integrated News
