Trike driver shot dead while breaking up fight in Antipolo City
A 29-year-old tricycle driver was shot dead while trying to break up a brawl between youngsters in Antipolo City in Rizal on Sunday.
According to Jun Veneracion’s report in “Saksi” on Wednesday, CCTV footage showed parts of the brawl that happened at Barangay San Jose.
The victim – Paolo Villamor – was shot in the head by the unknown gunman.
“Nakita lang namin, ‘yung mga bata nagsusuntukan. Pinagtutulungan nila yung isang lalaki. Tapos lumapit yung biktima, aawat lang po sana. Kaso, na-out balance siya, pagbalik niya, ayun may biglang pumutok, bumagsak na siya,” a witness said.
(We just saw the kids punching each other. They were ganging up on one guy. Then the victim approached, he was just going to intervene. But he lost his balance, and when he got back up, there was a gunshot, and he fell.)
“’Yung nabaril, umaawat lang daw ‘yun. Pero binugbog din siya. Hanggang sa mayroon na lang bumaril sa kanya,” said barangay captain Christina Dalisay.
(The one who was shot was reportedly just trying to break up the fight. But he was also beaten up. Until someone just shot him.)
In a follow-up operation, the police arrested five youths involved in the fight, with four of them minors. However, police did not recover any gun from them.
Authorities said the gunman remains at large. Villamor’s kin urged the gunman to surrender to police. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/JMA, GMA Integrated News
