QC gov't, SM hold milk donation drive for Women’s Month
The Quezon City government has partnered with SM Malls to launch a mass breast milk donation drive aimed at boosting the city’s Human Milk Bank in celebration of Women’s Month.
In a statement on Friday, the city called on lactating mothers, mallgoers, and regular donors to take part in the drive, which also includes sessions on proper breastfeeding, maternal nutrition, and prenatal screening.
“We value this partnership with SM Cares. Strengthening our referral network allows us to reach more mothers—and more importantly, more infants who depend on life-saving milk," said Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte.
"Breastmilk remains the best for babies. But when it’s not available, we make sure every child still receives the nutrition they need to grow healthy,” she added.
Belmonte emphasized the city’s commitment to supporting mothers and ensuring equal access to proper nutrition for all infants.
“We empower mothers who go above and beyond for their children. In Quezon City, we are committed to ensuring that every infant—regardless of circumstance—has the chance to grow strong and healthy,” she said.
Earlier, the Quezon City Human Milk Bank (QCHMB) said it has become a “referral and support hub” following the expansion of its services beyond city residents.
According to QCHMB, it dispensed a total of 738,670 milliliters of pasteurized human milk to 496 infants in 2025, with 56% distributed to non-residents.
QCHMB currently operates dedicated milk depots at SM Fairview, SM North EDSA, SM Novaliches, and SM Sta. Mesa, where mothers can drop off excess breast milk for infants in need.—MCG, GMA Integrated News
